Humane Society of Sedona Maintained No-Kill in 2023!
More than 90% of the Dogs and Cats That Entered the Shelter Last Year Were Saved, earning the Humane Society of Sedona a recognition award from Best Friends Animal Society
June 25, 2024 (Sedona, AZ) The Humane Society of Sedona (HSS), a leading area animal welfare non-profit, maintained their no-kill status in 2023, according to Best Friends Animal Society’s annual data report. Shelters receiving the no-kill recognition award saved more than 90% of the dogs and cats in their care in calendar year 2023. In 2023, HSS significantly surpassed this milestone with a 98.68% ‘animals saved’ quota and is at a 99.26% no-kill ranking for the first half of 2024.
Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters in 2025, recognizes this incredible achievement as one that can be replicated by other shelters in Arizona.
“This award represents extraordinary leadership, both within your organization and the broader animal welfare movement,” said Julie Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society, “I want to acknowledge and thank the organizations around the country who work tirelessly to save lives, helping move us closer to ending the killing of cats and dogs in shelters in 2025.”
At the Humane Society of Sedona, animals with diabetes, serious age-related oral issues, limbs requiring amputation, and other life-threatening conditions are given a second chance at life. Along with advanced medical care, HSS provides positive reinforcement behavior intervention to prepare animals for a new family.
“Because of dedicated community support, HSS is able to provide treatment for animals that would likely be euthanized because of health or behavior issues at other shelters,” acknowledged Jennifer Brehler, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Sedona, “The financial investment of our donors makes it possible to reach beyond basic care for the hurting animals that come to us. They’ve made it possible for us to achieve this esteemed recognition.”
The Humane Society of Sedona takes their mission to build a caring community where every adoptable and treatable companion animal finds a loving home seriously. Through the end of summer, they will sponsor over 49 days of adoption specials.
