The Humane Society of Sedona Maintained No-Kill in 2024
98% of the Dogs and Cats That Entered the Shelter Last Year Were Saved
July 10, 2025 Sedona, AZ – The Humane Society of Sedona (HSS) maintained a no-kill status in 2024, according to Best Friends Animal Society’s annual data report at bestfriends.org/no-kill-2025/animal-shelter-statistics. The Best Friends recognition goes to animal welfare agencies that saved 90% or more of the dogs and cats that entered their shelters last year. The Humane Society of Sedona is proud to announce that through 2024, 98% of the animals entering the shelter were saved.
“We accomplish this by actively promoting adoptable pets and holding special week-long adoption events for over 17 weeks each year. We do everything we possibly can to find loving homes for the animals in our care. Also, through the community’s dedicated support, HSS is able to take in and provide treatment for animals that may otherwise be euthanized because of lack of resources at other shelters,” acknowledged Jennifer Brehler, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Sedona, “The generous financial gifts of our donors make it possible to reach beyond basic care for the hurting animals that come to us. Our supporters are a big part of why HSS has achieved this esteemed recognition.”
One program that is instrumental in saving the lives of the shelter pets is the Emergency Medical Fund (EMF). These restricted funds are generated 100% from designated individual donations and used to treat, often costly, medical conditions. Without treatment, the cat or dog may suffer or die from the illness or injury, and even risk humane euthanasia elsewhere. The Humane Society of Sedona is grateful for the outpouring of community support that makes the Emergency Medical Fund and our 98% save rate possible.
“This level of lifesaving takes dedication, resources, partnerships, and community support every single day. HSS is happy to be a part of the lifesaving journey Best Friends Animal Society is on and to the recognition they’ve provided for our hard work. We’re committed as ever to the animals and providing lifesaving resources to save them,” said Brehler.
