Humane Society of Sedona Ramps Up Giving Opportunities with New Director of Philanthropy

The Humane Society of Sedona recently welcomed new Director of Philanthropy, Brenda Redel. Developing strategies in concert with Jennifer Brehler, HSS Executive Director, and Stephanie Giesbrecht, Board President, Brenda’s expertise will be instrumental to meet the growing need for effective animal shelter services throughout the Sedona area. Animal Shelters across Arizona saw an increase of abandoned animals in 2023, and the Humane Society of Sedona was no exception. Brenda’s role includes strengthening the shelter’s financial base in support of the homeless animals that, through no fault of their own, are left in need of immediate care and housing.
Brenda Redel brings an abundance of diverse experience drawn from two decades of nonprofit leadership in the human services sector. In collaboration with organizations such as Arizona Adopt a Greyhound, the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, and Rainbow Acres’ Animal Science program, she directed services promoting the benefit of the human/animal bond for people with age-related and other disabilities. While serving as the Sedona Community Center Executive Director, Brenda secured funding for the pet food project ensuring Meals on Wheels recipients struggling to make ends meet could receive food and veterinary care for their pets.
For Brenda, it’s a natural progression of her passion to make a difference to now be on the other side of the human/animal bond. Citing a 2023 Pew Research Center survey, Brenda indicates, “97% of all U.S pet owners say that pets are part of their family. Not only that, but 51% of all pet owners consider their pets as much a part of the family as a human member!”
In her new role, Brenda will deepen donor relationships by providing opportunities for recognition and support. The menu of choices includes kennel sponsorship, the Care Club for monthly giving, Fur-Ever Friends legacy support, and naming opportunities throughout the facility. The Humane Society of Sedona is a leading area animal welfare nonprofit committed to providing outstanding care to homeless companion animals. Their unique services expand beyond basic shelter care including low-cost vaccination clinics, a statewide animal exchange program designed to put every companion pet into the best possible environment for adoption, and regularly reduced adoption fees. The majority of funding to support the sheltered animals comes directly from community donations.
