We are happy to bring a Community Spay & Neuter Program to Sedona and the Verde Valley!

For more than sixty years, the Humane Society of Sedona has been dedicated to serving Sedona and the Verde Valley community. We are proud to further that mission by offering a low-cost spay and neuter program designed to improve the health of pets and reduce unwanted litters in our region.
Spaying and neutering pets saves lives! Altering your pet before maturity (typically between 4–6 months of age) or before a female’s first heat cycle offers important health and behavioral benefits.
  • Spaying helps protect female cats and dogs from serious health risks such as uterine infections, ovarian or uterine cancers, and mammary (breast) cancer. It is also far more cost-effective than treating these conditions later, including emergency procedures like pyometra, C-sections, cancer care, or the expenses associated with raising an unexpected litter of puppies or kittens.
  • Neutering helps protect male cats and dogs from serious health issues, including testicular cancer. It can also positively influence behavior — making pets less likely to mark territory, spray indoors, act aggressively, or roam in search of a mate.
Spaying and neutering are the most effective ways to reduce pet overpopulation and prevent homelessness in our community. Without these procedures, even a small number of unaltered pets can lead to thousands of offspring in just a few years. This contributes directly to overcrowded shelters, increased stray populations, and unnecessary suffering for animals who may never find homes.
By spaying and neutering, we take a proactive step toward reducing the number of unwanted litters and ensuring more pets have the opportunity for safe, loving lives.

Please Note: Vaccinations & microchipping are only offered during the spay/neuter procedure and are not available to the public otherwise.

(Keep an eye out for our spring and fall public vaccine clinics!)

Things You Should Know!

  • Animals must be four months of age or older to be eligible for spay or neuter surgery.

  • Proof of a current Rabies Vaccination is required. If your pet does not have a current rabies vaccine, we can provide it at the time of surgery for $25.

  • Our shelter veterinarian will perform a pre-surgical exam. If there are concerns throughout the exam, we will contact the guardian before the procedure.

  • Payment is required at the time of scheduling.
